Job description

3 Month Contract With A Local Authority

Job Purpose:

To provide community-based support (floating support) to vulnerable residents living in general needs accommodation. The primary responsibility is to carry out welfare visits and access-related checks where required—no personal care is involved. This support is often needed due to lift failures, essential repair access, or to complete wellbeing checks to keep resident records up to date.

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Carry out scheduled welfare visits to vulnerable tenants in general needs housing.

  • Conduct in-person checks where lifts are out of service to ensure tenants are safe and supported.

  • Complete welfare visits to gather information, assess any potential support needs, and update tenancy records accordingly.

  • Attend properties to provide access for repairs or inspections where required.

  • Follow a pre-defined task list or checklist for each visit to ensure consistency and completeness.

  • Identify and report safeguarding concerns, maintenance issues, or risks, escalating appropriately.

  • Maintain accurate written records of all visits, observations, and actions taken.

  • Work independently and responsibly, following lone working protocols and safety procedures at all times.

  • Engage with vulnerable individuals in a non-judgmental, respectful, and professional manner to build trust and encourage communication.

Requirements

  • Previous experience supporting vulnerable people in housing, care, or support settings.

  • Proven ability to work alone safely and effectively within clear guidelines.

  • Experience or formal training in risk assessments within a care/support context.

  • Up-to-date Safeguarding Adults training.

  • Enhanced DBS check (valid and ideally on the update service).

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills for record-keeping and resident engagement.

  • Reliable, empathetic, and confident in dealing with individuals who may have complex needs or be in distress.
