3 months contract with a Local Authority

Job Summary:

•An opportunity has arisen for a highly skilled Senior Social Worker to join a Family Support and Safeguarding team on a temporary basis.

•The role is pivotal in delivering high-quality social work interventions to children and families, ensuring the safety and well-being of children through timely and effective safeguarding, child protection, and family support practices.

•The successful candidate will demonstrate strong leadership, assessment, and care planning capabilities within a statutory children’s services context.


Key Duties/Accountabilities (Sample):

•Undertake complex casework involving child protection, court proceedings, and children in need assessments.

•Lead on safeguarding interventions, risk assessments, and child protection planning for vulnerable children and young people.

•Develop and implement child-centred, outcome-focused care plans that promote stability and long-term well-being.

•Work in partnership with families, carers, and multi-agency professionals to ensure the delivery of integrated services.

•Provide professional guidance and support to less experienced social workers and contribute to reflective practice and team development.

•Manage a complex and varied caseload independently, ensuring statutory obligations are met within required timescales.

•Prepare high-quality reports for child protection conferences, Looked After Children (LAC) reviews, and court proceedings.

•Participate in team meetings, strategy discussions, supervision, and multi-agency working groups as required.


Skills/Experience:

•Extensive experience in safeguarding children, statutory assessments, and care planning.

•In-depth knowledge of child development, risk indicators, and the legal framework underpinning children’s social care (Children Act 1989, Working Together to Safeguard Children, etc.).

•Strong report writing, analytical, and communication skills.

•Able to manage complex caseloads under pressure and within statutory timeframes.

•Proven ability to work in partnership with families, communities, and professionals.
