Job Purpose

Shropshire Council is seeking a highly experienced Senior Occupational Therapist to support a Single-Handed Care Review project. The aim is to assess and redesign current care packages by introducing appropriate equipment, reducing double-handed care, and promoting independence and wellbeing for service users.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Undertake 10 single-handed care assessments per week (over 15 weeks), reviewing and revising existing care arrangements.

  • Apply knowledge of Single-Handed Care techniques and equipment to promote safe, independent living and reduce reliance on multiple carers.

  • Identify, order, and oversee the provision of specialist equipment and adaptations to support revised care packages.

  • Collaborate with social workers and care providers to co-produce new support plans and ensure client outcomes are met.

  • Record assessments and outcomes clearly in accordance with Care Act duties and local authority procedures.

  • Adhere to best practice and national guidelines in manual handling, risk assessment, and safeguarding.

Requirements:

  • Minimum 7 years of post-qualified experience as an Occupational Therapist (applications without this will be rejected).

  • Proven experience and training in Single-Handed Care techniques and reviews (must be clearly visible on CV).

  • HCPC registered Occupational Therapist.

  • Up-to-date knowledge of the Care Act 2014, manual handling legislation, and person-centred assessment.

  • Strong communication, documentation, and clinical reasoning skills.

  • Ability to work independently, manage caseloads efficiently, and meet weekly assessment targets.
