Job description
3 months contract with a Local Authority
Job Summary:
• We are currently seeking a skilled Grounds Maintenance Worker / Gardener to help maintain clean, safe, and well-presented outdoor environments across a network of council estates.
• This is a full-time, temporary position for a dedicated and physically fit individual with hands-on experience in groundskeeping, gardening, or landscaping.
• The successful candidate will take pride in maintaining green spaces, ensuring high standards for residents and contributing to the overall appearance and safety of communal areas.
Key Duties/Accountabilities (Sample):
• Carry out regular maintenance of lawns, hedges, flower beds, shrubs, and general green spaces
• Perform litter picking and waste removal from communal and outdoor areas
• Keep estate pathways, entrances, and communal areas clean and hazard-free
• Undertake seasonal tasks such as leaf clearance, snow removal, and gritting
• Operate and maintain grounds maintenance tools and equipment (e.g. mowers, strimmers, hedge cutters, blowers)
• Identify and report issues such as fly-tipping, damage, or health and safety concerns
• Work respectfully and professionally when engaging with members of the public or estate residents
• Adhere to health and safety regulations and council service standards
Skills/Experience:
• Minimum 1 year of experience in gardening, grounds maintenance, or landscaping
• Confident operating groundskeeping equipment and tools
• Good knowledge of basic horticulture and plant care
• Understanding of health and safety practices in public outdoor spaces
• Physically fit and comfortable working outdoors in all weather
• Ability to follow schedules and work independently or as part of a team
• Punctual, reliable, and takes pride in delivering high-quality outdoor maintenance
Additional Information:
• Drive between sites (a valid UK driving licence is essential).
• Working Hours: 36 hours per week (Monday to Friday, 7:30am – 3:00pm).
