3 months contract with a Local Authority
Job Summary:
• The Executive Head of Childcare Services is responsible for the strategic and operational leadership of three local authority-maintained nurseries.
• The postholder will ensure the delivery of high-quality early education and childcare, compliance with statutory responsibilities (including Ofsted inspections), and the provision of inclusive, safe, and developmentally appropriate services for children and their families.
• The role includes line management, safeguarding, financial oversight, and a strong focus on early intervention and community partnership working.

Key Duties/Accountabilities (Sample):
• Provide leadership and management to ensure high standards in early education and care across multiple childcare sites.
• Lead the annual self-evaluation, development planning, and preparation for Ofsted inspections.
• Oversee safeguarding and act as the Designated Child Protection Officer within the settings.
• Ensure inclusive practices, supporting children with additional needs and coordinating multi-agency involvement.
• Supervise and develop a team of childcare professionals through performance management, training, and recruitment.
• Manage and monitor childcare budgets, fee collection, and financial forecasting in line with public sector financial procedures.
• Maintain the security, health and safety, and utilisation of the childcare premises.
• Uphold equal opportunities and ensure compliance with health, safety, and data protection legislation.

Skills/Experience:
• Proven experience of managing integrated childcare and education provision.
• Sound knowledge of Ofsted frameworks and inspection readiness.
• Financial planning and budget management experience.
• Experience in leading and developing staff teams within a public or education setting.
• Strong knowledge of the EYFS, child development, and safeguarding legislation.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Effective leadership, motivation, and team supervision skills.
• Organisational and planning capabilities, including record-keeping.
• Ability to build partnerships with parents, communities, and external agencies.
• Commitment to inclusion, equality, and continuing professional development.

Additional Information:
• Recognised early years/childcare qualification.
• This post requires a current enhanced DBS check.
• Responsible for supervising 16–49 staff, including contract/project staff.
