Job description
3 months contract with a Local Authority
Job Summary:
• This role sits within the Home to School Transport team, responsible for ensuring that over 1,000 children are safely and efficiently transported to and from school each day.
• The postholder will cover key functions related to eligibility assessment and planning for transport, including working closely with social workers, families, and transport providers.
• The position involves processing applications, supporting appeals, and ensuring timely, effective coordination of transport for children in mainstream and social care settings.
Key Duties/Accountabilities (Sample):
• Assess and determine entitlement to home-to-school transport in line with current statutory and local policies.
• Process applications for social care transport, working directly with social workers and procurement colleagues.
• Arrange suitable transport quickly to minimise disruption to education, particularly for children in foster care placements.
• Support with the preparation of paperwork for Stage One and Stage Two transport appeals.
• Liaise with a wide range of stakeholders including parents, passenger assistants, transport providers, and schools.
• Manage conflicting priorities in a fast-paced environment to maintain continuity of service.
• Respond to telephone enquiries and provide clear, accurate advice and information regarding transport provision.
Skills/Experience:
• Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple competing demands.
• Experience of working in a customer-focused environment, ideally in education, social care, or transport services.
• High level of written and verbal communication skills.
• Good IT proficiency, including use of MS Office and case management systems.
• Ability to interpret and apply policy guidance when making decisions.
• Experience handling appeals; complaints or sensitive customer interactions is desirable.
• Able to work both independently and as part of a team in a high-pressure setting.
Additional Information:
• Full-time role – 37 hours per week (Monday to Friday, 08:30 – 16:30).
