3-month contract with a local authority
Summary
- This is a 3-month contract with a local authority, focusing on managing and coordinating the Local Authority’s response to Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) tribunal appeals and mediation processes. The role is crucial for ensuring legal compliance, supporting effective dispute resolution, and contributing to continuous service improvement for children and families.
Responsibilities
- Tribunal Case Management: Coordinate responses to SEND tribunal appeals, including preparing legal documentation, gathering evidence, and representing the local authority at hearings.
- Mediation Coordination: Arrange and support mediation meetings between families and the local authority, aiming to resolve disagreements without formal legal proceedings.
- Legal Compliance: Ensure all actions and responses comply with the SEND Code of Practice, tribunal procedures, and statutory timelines.
- Stakeholder Liaison: Work closely with parents/carers, legal representatives, schools, and internal teams to manage disputes sensitively and professionally.
- Advice and Guidance: Provide expert advice to colleagues on tribunal and mediation processes, supporting consistent and lawful decision-making.
- Record Keeping and Reporting: Maintain accurate records of cases, outcomes, and learning points, contributing to service improvement and accountability.
Experience
- Strong understanding of SEND legislation, including the Children and Families Act 2014 and the SEND Code of Practice.
- Experience managing complex and sensitive cases within a legal or educational context.
- Proven ability to coordinate tribunal or mediation processes.
- Experience working with families, schools, and multi-agency teams.
