Job description
3 Months Contract With A Local Authority
- To carry out high-quality painting and decorating work across residential properties managed by the Council, including responsive repairs, planned maintenance, empty homes, and capital repairs. The role involves ensuring excellent customer service, compliance with health and safety standards, and contributing to the overall improvement of housing conditions in the borough.
Key Duties & Responsibilities
Carry out painting and decorating work to a high standard on responsive, planned, empty homes, and capital repair projects.
Plan and organise workload to ensure efficiency and timely completion of tasks, including emergencies and urgent repairs.
Communicate effectively with schedulers, planners, and supervisors to ensure smooth delivery and to report issues or delays.
Accurately record work completed and materials used via PDA systems or paper when necessary.
Maintain imprest stock, tools, and equipment in good condition, ensuring secure use of Council property and materials.
Identify follow-up works and non-stock material requirements, submitting requests in a timely manner.
Provide guidance and support to apprentices and trainees, monitoring their work and development.
Ensure all work is carried out safely, adhering to risk assessments, safe systems of work, and manufacturer guidance.
Operate within the Council’s policies, including Health and Safety, Customer Care, Safeguarding, and Equal Opportunities.
Drive and maintain a Council vehicle, complying with the Driver’s Policy.
Take responsibility for own professional development, attending training, supervision, and contributing to service improvements.
Essential Experience Required
Experience delivering high-quality painting and decorating work in domestic/residential properties.
Proven ability to use a wide range of portable power tools and equipment safely and effectively.
Experience working in an environment that requires multi-skilling (minimum NVQ Level 3 or willingness to train).
Strong awareness and practical application of construction safety practices, including asbestos awareness and working at heights.
Ability to record information accurately using PDAs and written documentation (e.g., job sheets, materials records).
Effective communication with customers, colleagues, and supervisors, maintaining good working relationships.
Essential Qualifications Required
Recognised City & Guilds (C&G) apprenticeship in Painting or equivalent qualification.
NVQ Level 3 in Painting and Decorating or equivalent experience.
