3 Months Contract 
 

Remote to include tribunal hearings
 

Summary:
 

We are seeking an experienced SEN/Education Lawyer who is adept at handling tribunal hearings. This role is pivotal in providing high-quality legal advice to client departments, ensuring statutory compliance, and maintaining transparent operations within the Council. The position is essential for guiding the Council's legal activities, ensuring adherence to local government law, and supporting the Council's objectives and priorities.
 

Responsibilities:
 

  • Deliver legal advice and services to the Council, its Members, and client departments, ensuring adherence to local government law.
     
  • Represent the Council in courts and tribunals as necessary.
     
  • Supervise and mentor junior team members, fostering their professional growth.
     
  • Assist senior lawyers in drafting and advising on reports for the Cabinet, Council Committees, and Sub-Committees.
     
  • Attend meetings and committees, including those outside regular office hours, ensuring compliance with procedural requirements.
     
  • Contribute to achieving the team's financial targets.
     
  • Monitor legal developments, update policies and processes, and inform client departments accordingly.
     
  • Respond promptly and professionally to queries and calls, ensuring effective communication.
     
  • Maintain accurate digital and physical records of all work, including time records.
     
  • Collaborate with other teams and support the training and development of colleagues and clients.
     
  • Ability to work collaboratively and support team objectives.
     


Requirements

  • Demonstrated understanding of equal opportunities and the diverse needs of individuals.

  • Ability to work outside normal hours when required, with appropriate compensation.
     
  • Strong communication and engagement skills.
     
  • Experience in legal practice, particularly in local government law.
