Job description
2 Month Contract With A Local Authority
To supervise and facilitate safe, child-focused family time sessions between children—predominantly those in care—and their immediate and extended families. The role ensures that these sessions are positive, structured, and meet the needs of the child, while also producing accurate and factual written observations that may contribute to court proceedings.
Key Responsibilities
Facilitate and supervise family time (contact) between children and their families in line with agreed care and safety plans.
Ensure the emotional and physical safety of the child throughout the session.
Promote positive interactions that are appropriate to the child’s age and development.
Complete detailed, factual, and non-judgemental written records of observed family interactions.
Ensure timely submission of reports, particularly when family time is part of court proceedings.
Maintain confidentiality and adhere to data protection policies in all written and verbal communications.
Prepare children and families before and after contact sessions, offering emotional support where needed.
Work sensitively with families who may be experiencing trauma, conflict, or distress.
Help manage expectations and encourage positive experiences during family time.
Support sessions held at designated contact centres, community venues, and in family homes (where risk-assessed and appropriate).
Travel across Worcestershire as required to facilitate sessions and support service delivery.
Recognise and report any safeguarding concerns in line with the council’s safeguarding policies and procedures.
Work closely with social workers, team managers, and other professionals to ensure the child’s needs remain the focus of all sessions.
Maintain professional boundaries and demonstrate empathy, respect, and cultural awareness.
Key Requirements
Experience of working with children, young people, or families in a supportive or supervisory role.
Strong observational and written communication skills.
Ability to maintain neutrality, confidentiality, and objectivity in challenging situations.
Good understanding of safeguarding children and vulnerable adults.
Flexible and able to travel across the county as needed.
