Permanent Role With A Local Authority



Main Purpose of the Job

To carry out a wide range of repair and maintenance plumbing works in both tenanted and void properties within the Borough of Lewisham.

The postholder will ensure that all completed repairs meet a high standard of quality and that excellent levels of customer care and satisfaction are maintained at all times.

The role also involves associated works such as removing/refitting kitchen units, tiling, skirting, panelling, and ducting, ensuring all are completed to a high standard.

Working hours: Monday to Friday, 8:00am – 5:00pm



Key Responsibilities and Duties

  • Competently carry out a wide range of plumbing works in occupied and unoccupied properties.

  • Hold a recognised qualification (City & Guilds and/or NVQ equivalent).

  • Undertake inspection and maintenance activities as directed by the Supervisor or Management.

  • Support emergency call-outs when required (e.g., bad weather, fire, vandalism).

  • Work across various property types throughout the borough, including tenancies, offices, and unoccupied buildings.

  • Liaise professionally with a diverse range of customers, adhering to Lewisham Council’s Customer Services and Equal Opportunities policies.

  • Be responsible for an allocated Lewisham Council vehicle, ensuring it is safely driven, properly maintained, and securely loaded with tools and materials.

  • Ensure the vehicle, tools, and materials are secure at all times — no items should be left in the vehicle overnight.

  • Complete all assigned works to a high standard and within agreed timescales.

  • Operate and maintain all tools and equipment appropriately.

  • Comply with all Health & Safety requirements, ensuring appropriate PPE is worn.

  • Communicate clearly and accurately with supervisors, colleagues, and residents.

  • Report all accidents, damages, or incidents immediately to the line manager.

  • Complete job records, reports, and work orders as required.

  • Maintain a materials stock (impress) on the allocated vehicle.

  • Wear Lewisham Council uniform and display ID at all times.

  • Attend appointments and training as scheduled, ensuring any delays are reported.

  • Undertake other duties commensurate with the grade and nature of the post.


Requirements

  • Strong knowledge of repairs and maintenance

  • Understanding of Health & Safety regulations

  • Knowledge of the local area and ability to drive

  • Strong time management and problem-solving skills

  • Excellent punctuality and attendance

  • Ability to work well under pressure and with attention to detail

  • Qualified to City & Guilds or NVQ Level 3 standard

  • Holds a valid Unvented Hot Water Systems certificate/license
