3-Month Contract with a local authority

Job Purpose

  • To ensure the Council meets its statutory duties under the Housing Act 1996 Part 7 (as amended), by providing high-quality advice, guidance, and assistance to individuals and households experiencing or at risk of homelessness. The role focuses on preventing homelessness wherever possible through early intervention, effective case management, and partnership working.

Key Duties/Accountabilities

  • Deliver comprehensive housing advice and support to residents, ensuring compliance with homelessness legislation and council policies.
  • Assess homelessness applications, determine eligibility, priority need, and intentionality, and issue appropriate decisions and notifications.
  • Develop and implement personalised housing plans (PHPs) to prevent or relieve homelessness, working collaboratively with applicants and relevant agencies.
  • Liaise with internal departments, housing providers, support services, and external agencies to secure suitable accommodation and support solutions.
  • Maintain accurate case records and ensure timely updates on the housing management system.
  • Provide advocacy and representation for clients where necessary, including referrals to legal aid and welfare support.
  • Monitor and report on homelessness trends, outcomes, and service performance.
Essential Experience Required

  • Proven experience in housing advice, homelessness prevention, or related social welfare roles.
  • Strong working knowledge of the Housing Act 1996 Part 7 and the Homelessness Reduction Act 2017.
Essential Qualification Required

  • General education qualification is essential.

  • Working hours: 37 hours per week.
  • Enhanced DBS required
