Job description

1 month contract with a local authority  


Job Purpose

  • Make relevant enquiries, assess eligibility for accommodation and be responsible for making complex decisions, which may be contentious, as to whether a statutory homelessness duty arises in accordance with prevailing legislation, codes of guidance, case law and policy, with particular emphasis on of the Housing Act 1996, PART VII as amended by the Homelessness Act 2002, Homelessness Reduction Act and any subsequent legislation.


Key Duties/Accountabilities

  • Develop and maintain an expert knowledge of the Housing Act 1996 Part VII as amended by the Homelessness Act 2002 Homelessness Reduction Act and any subsequent legislation, as well as relevant case law, codes guidance, local authority agreements, etc concerning the Council’s statutory homelessness duties.
  • Provide advice in such areas, but not exclusively, security of tenure, possession proceedings, housing rights following relationship breakdown, welfare benefits, debt counselling, housing options, employment and training opportunities, provision of support services or long term accommodation options.
  • Take a casework approach to seek out solutions to meet the needs of customers, assist customers to access the services they need to support desired outcomes, developing and reviewing solution focussed and person centred action/support plans where necessary.


Essential Experience Required

  • Experience of Housing legislation in particular, Part VI and VII of the Housing Act 1996 (as amended) is essential.

 

Essential Qualification Required

 

  • A relevant degree in an appropriate discipline or qualification or experience of an equivalent academic or professional standard is essential.

 

Additional information to note

  • Working hours: 36 hours per week.
  • The role requires a DBS check.
