3 Month Contract with a local Authority


Job Purpose

  • To ensure the cemetery grounds are maintained to a high standard of cleanliness, safety, and presentation. This role involves carrying out a range of horticultural, grounds maintenance, and burial preparation tasks with sensitivity and respect for the environment and those visiting the cemetery.

 

Key Duties/Accountabilities

  • Carry out grass cutting, hedge trimming, weeding, planting, and general horticultural tasks.
  • Prepare graves for burials, including excavation and backfilling, using hand tools and mechanical equipment.
  • Maintain pathways, fences, signage, and other cemetery infrastructure.
  • Ensure the cemetery is clean, tidy, and free from litter and debris at all times.
  • Operate and maintain grounds maintenance machinery and tools safely and effectively.
  • Assist with the setup and support of funeral services, ensuring respectful and professional conduct at all times.
  • Carry out inspections and report any damage, hazards, or maintenance needs.
  • Follow all health and safety procedures, including safe working practices around graves and machinery.
  • Provide respectful assistance to members of the public and bereaved families when required.

 

Essential Experience Required.

  • Previous experience in grounds maintenance, horticulture, or a similar outdoor manual role.
  • Experience using grounds maintenance equipment (e.g., mowers, strimmers, hedge cutters).
  • Understanding of health and safety practices, particularly in a cemetery or similar environment.
  • Ability to carry out physically demanding tasks in all weather conditions.

Additional information to note

  • This role is 35 working hours per week.
