2 - 3 Month Contract with a local Authority


Job Purpose

  • Provide consistent employee relations support across the Council by collaborating with managers, HR, legal services, trade unions, and external partners to resolve conflicts, ensure policy compliance, and maintain a positive, legally sound working environment.

 

Key Duties/Accountabilities

  • To support the delivery of HRBP strategies and plans, ensuring alignment to directorate objectives and contributing to the commitments in the Council delivery plan.
  • To provide line managers with expertise, advice, guidance and solutions for people practices that supports managers to undertake sound people practices, conduct appropriate employee performance management, support employee retention, increase management confidence and competence in people practices,
  • To be a subject matter expert in ER related policy application i.e. grievance, capability, disciplinary, ill health management and work effectively with legal service, trade unions and HR colleagues to support resolutions, conciliation activities and employment tribunals preparations.
  • To apply strategies, support, solutions and good practice to progress informal or formal case work in a reasonable time frame and address concerns/barriers through effective communication.
  • To contribute to data informed stories at strategic and operational levels that identifies data patterns, predicts trends and recommends options that HRBP colleagues can share proactively with leaders to enhance employee experiences.
  • Provide high quality HR advice and guidance to HR colleagues, line managers, TU representatives and employees on complex staffing issues relating to both individuals and groups of staff, which supports and promotes the employee experience.
  • To manage a range of ER cases (Including complex cases) and take ownership of the process, supporting and being the point of contact for managers, employees and TU representative as the procedures are progressed in a timely way ensuring effective communication, strong case monitoring and good case recording for quality assurance and compliant reasons. 2
  • Coach, assist and advise managers where required to undertake effective investigations including how to interview, record and gather relevant information to support effective investigation reports in line with policy and procedure.
  • To work collaboratively across our HR teams by sharing resources to achieve key priorities, undertake projects and lead on partnership activities.
  • To champion and proactively support the implementation of the Council’s vision to be an ever more inclusive, anti-racist organisation and model positive behaviours that demonstrate the Council’s values
  • To ensure that all duties and responsibilities are discharged in accordance with the Council’s policies and procedures, and any relevant legislation and regulation.

Requirements:

  • Minimum level 5 CIPD approved qualification or equivalent knowledge, skills and experience.
  • Experience of working as a HR professional in large complex organisations and providing operational ER advice and influence to meet the need of the business.
  • Experience of drawing on data analysis to drive continuous improvements and change.
  • Experience of working with ACAS conciliation service and preparing/attending employment tribunal.

 

Additional information to note

  • This role is 36 working hours per week.
