1-2 months contract with a Local Authority
Job Summary:
• Deliver high-quality casework and social work services to vulnerable children and families, ensuring practice promotes the best interests and welfare of children.
• Safeguard children and improve their outcomes across health, education, social and emotional wellbeing, through assessments, care planning and interventions.
• Work with children in need, those subject to child protection, looked after children, care leavers, and their careers, offering support and empowerment aligned with professional standards and statutory guidance.
• Contribute positively to team culture and practice, utilising Restorative Practice as the overarching framework.
• Build and maintain professional partnerships to enhance service delivery and outcomes for children and families.
Key Duties/Accountabilities (Sample):
• Assess and prioritise requests for assistance, identifying risk levels and support needs.
• Maintain accurate and up-to-date case records, ensuring compliance with statutory duties and national/local policies.
• Carry out holistic needs and risk assessments, engaging other agencies and specialists as appropriate.
• Develop, implement and review care plans with clear outcomes focused on child safety and wellbeing.
• Build respectful, collaborative relationships with children, families, carers, and professionals.
• Initiate and participate in case conferences, reviews, and professional meetings; provide reports and undertake court work as required.
• Negotiate service delivery methods and engage users and carers in decision-making, ensuring inclusive practice.
• Manage workload and caseload effectively, adhering to organisational policies and financial regulations.
• Keep informed of current research and best practices to inform social work interventions.
• Participate actively in supervision, appraisal, and professional development activities.
• Promote equality, diversity and inclusion in service delivery and within the workplace.
• Comply with Health and Safety legislation and organisational policies.
Skills/Experience:
• Minimum of one-year post-qualifying experience in statutory children’s social care.
• Sound knowledge of child development, safeguarding, child protection frameworks, and statutory social work legislation.
• Experience of working with children in need, children subject to child protection, looked after children, and care leavers.
• Ability to conduct comprehensive assessments, manage risk, and formulate effective care plans.
• Strong communication skills, including report writing and verbal presentation.
• Competence in working with IT systems and case management software.
• Ability to build professional relationships with children, families, and multi-agency partners.
• Commitment to equal opportunities and anti-discriminatory practice.
• Emotional resilience and ability to work under pressure in complex and demanding environments.

• Recognised social work qualification with registration (or eligibility for registration) with Social Work England.
