Job description
3 months contract with a Local Authority
Job Summary:
• An experienced and confident Child Protection Manager is required to lead and coordinate key safeguarding processes within Children’s Services.
• The role involves chairing Child Protection Conferences, Strategy Meetings, and other multi-agency forums, as well as managing investigations into allegations against staff, carers, and volunteers in accordance with safeguarding procedures and policies.
• The post holder will contribute to the development and quality assurance of child protection practice across the safeguarding partnership and provide expert advice to internal and external professionals.
Key Duties/Accountabilities (Sample):
• Chair Child Protection Conferences, Strategy Meetings and other statutory or procedural meetings in line with child safeguarding legislation and departmental policies.
• Oversee and coordinate the management of allegations against staff, carers, and volunteers on behalf of the Local Authority Designated Officer (LADO).
• Provide expert safeguarding advice and consultation to social care professionals and multi-agency colleagues regarding thresholds for child protection intervention.
• Ensure active participation of children, young people, and their parents in the safeguarding process in line with participation strategies.
• Liaise regularly with internal Children and Young People (CYP) colleagues and external agencies, including the voluntary sector, to promote integrated, effective safeguarding responses.
• Advise on information sharing between CYP staff and police in support of disclosure and safeguarding processes.
• Develop, implement and monitor quality assurance systems to assess practice and performance against agreed standards.
• Contribute to the design and delivery of induction and safeguarding training for staff across the partnership.
• Report on emerging safeguarding trends, risks, and policy issues to senior leadership and relevant boards.
• Prepare and present reports to multi-agency boards, senior management, and relevant panels as required.
• Support the recruitment, selection, and performance management of staff, including involvement in complaints and grievance procedures.
• Ensure safeguarding policies and procedures reflect current legislation, guidance, and best practice standards.
• Engage in strategic planning, target setting, and continuous improvement of children’s safeguarding services.
Skills/Experience:
• Extensive experience in child protection and safeguarding within children’s services or a similar setting.
• Proven ability to chair complex multi-agency safeguarding meetings.
• In-depth understanding of relevant legislation, statutory guidance, and procedures in child protection.
• Experience of managing or coordinating investigations into professional conduct or safeguarding allegations.
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to influence across professional boundaries.
• Ability to provide expert advice and maintain high standards of professional judgement under pressure.
• Experience of developing and maintaining effective quality assurance frameworks.
• Skilled in delivering training, facilitating learning and supporting staff development.
• Knowledge of data protection, equal opportunities, and health & safety legislation.
• Proficient in the use of IT systems for reporting, case management, and performance monitoring.
• Ability to draft clear, analytical reports and present findings to senior stakeholders.
• Commitment to continuous professional development and improvement of safeguarding practice.
