5 Month Contract With A Local Authority



Job Purpose

To contribute to the efficient day-to-day running of the Orbit Business Centre, providing front-line support and assistance across a wide range of administrative, operational, and customer service duties associated with a busy business and conference centre.

The postholder will ensure the smooth operation of conference, training, and meeting facilities, assist tenants and visitors, and provide high-quality customer service at all times.



Key Responsibilities

  • Provide front-of-house and reception duties, including greeting visitors, managing bookings, handling enquiries, and ensuring a professional and welcoming environment.

  • Assist in the set-up and operation of conference, training, and meeting suites, including arranging furniture, IT equipment, and presentation materials as directed.

  • Deliver excellent customer service to tenants, visitors, and Centre users, ensuring queries and requests are handled efficiently and courteously.

  • Provide support to Centre staff in the delivery of catering and hospitality services as required.

  • Undertake cash handling and process payments for bookings, catering, and other services in accordance with financial procedures.

  • Liaise with tenants and Centre staff to resolve facilities issues promptly and efficiently.

  • Carry out regular building inspections, reporting maintenance or safety issues to the appropriate personnel.

  • Perform minor cleaning tasks as necessary to maintain presentation standards in public and conference areas.

  • Provide flexible support and cover for other Business Centre staff during periods of absence, peak workloads, or events.

  • Support the management team with general administrative and facilities duties to ensure the smooth running of the Centre.

  • Cover duties in other Civic or Council properties as required.

  • Carry out Health and Safety responsibilities in line with the Authority’s policies and procedures, ensuring a safe working environment for staff, tenants, and visitors.

  • Support the Council’s decarbonisation and sustainability goals, contributing to efforts to achieve net zero carbon emissions.

  • Undertake any other reasonable duties commensurate with the grade of the post as requested by the Manager.


Requirements

  • Excellent customer service and interpersonal skills.

  • Confident in face-to-face communication with tenants, visitors, and colleagues.

  • Ability to handle cash transactions accurately and responsibly.

  • Practical, hands-on approach with the ability to assist with room set-ups and basic maintenance.

  • Flexible and adaptable, with a willingness to learn and support a variety of duties.

  • Reliable, punctual, and able to work both independently and as part of a team.

  • Awareness of Health & Safety procedures and commitment to maintaining a safe workplace.
