3 months contract with local authority, part-time
Main Purpose of Post:
To undertake examination and inspection of Building Regulation submissions, plans, and site works, and to assist in providing a high-quality, customer-focused service by ensuring compliance with Building Regulations, London Building Acts, and other associated legislation.
Key Unit Accountabilities:
The post holder will be required to demonstrate additional skills gained through training, experience, and qualifications, and be expected to take on work of greater complexity with a decreasing level of supervision. The key unit accountabilities identify the additional duties the post holder can expect to handle at the higher grade, and the Person Specification identifies the additional experience to be demonstrated.
Case Load Management:
- Undertake a case-load of Building Regulations submissions, including site inspection and examination of compliance with relevant building control legislation, including the Building Act and Regulations, and the London Building Acts. This will include:
- Plans examination
- Appraisal of calculations and other details
- Preparation and authorisation of letters
- Inspection of work on site
- Enforcement, including attendance at Court
- Maintenance of records, including monitoring income and expenditure associated with cases

Advisory Role:
- Advise applicants on statutory requirements affecting their proposals.
- Advise builders, architects, and other clients on the design of projects and fees in relation to relevant legislation (e.g., householder applications).

Financial Protection:
- Protect the Authority’s interests in all aspects of financial transactions with which the post holder is involved, and assist with the assessment and recovery of fees and charges.

Promotion of Services:
- Promote the Authority’s Building Control Service during normal contact with building professionals.
