Job Summary:
• An exciting opportunity has arisen for an Assistant Team Manager within the Mental Health Social Care Team.
• The successful applicant will support the operational delivery of statutory duties under the Care Act and the Mental Health Act, contributing to a strengths-based, person-centred approach that promotes recovery and independence.
• Reporting to the Team Manager, the Assistant Team Manager will play a pivotal role in supervising frontline staff, managing caseload allocation, and overseeing day-to-day team functions, including safeguarding enquiries.
• The post-holder will work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary setting to ensure timely, high-quality interventions and outcomes for adults experiencing mental health challenges.
Key Duties/Accountabilities (Sample):
• Provide professional supervision and management oversight to social care staff within the mental health team.
• Support the Team Manager in the operational management of the team, including acting as duty manager on a rota basis.
• Act as Safeguarding Manager for statutory safeguarding adults’ enquiries in line with policy and procedure.
• Allocate work effectively to ensure caseloads are manageable and reflect staff skill sets and development needs.
• Contribute to performance monitoring, quality assurance, and the continuous improvement of service delivery.
• Liaise with internal and external stakeholders, including NHS colleagues, to facilitate integrated support for service users.
• Support the co-production of service improvements with individuals who use services and their carers.
• Ensure that commissioned services offer best value and meet assessed needs in a cost-effective manner.
• Promote a strengths-based approach to care planning and intervention, focusing on achieving positive, personalised outcomes.
• Support professional development and promote a learning culture within the team.
Skills/Experience:
• Demonstrable experience of staff supervision, caseload management, and acting as duty or safeguarding manager.
• Sound working knowledge of the Care Act, Mental Health Act, and associated safeguarding legislation.
• Strong interpersonal, leadership, and problem-solving skills, with an ability to support and challenge practice effectively.
• Experience of working within multi-agency teams, promoting positive and integrated approaches to care.
• Ability to interpret and apply legislation, policies, and procedures to complex cases and team operations.
• Experience of contributing to service development, performance monitoring, and quality assurance frameworks.
Additional Information:
• Qualified Social Worker with current Social Work England registration.
• Substantial post-qualifying experience in adult social care, including within a mental health context.
