Job description
3 months contract with local authority
The role involves supporting vulnerable homeless adults, focusing on reducing repeat homelessness among those at risk, including former rough sleepers and individuals with complex needs. The position aims to empower service users by helping them develop and enhance skills, knowledge, and confidence to break the cycle of homelessness and support sustained independent living. A commitment to assisting vulnerable individuals is essential, along with a valid driving license and access to a vehicle for work purposes.
Responsibilities
- Conduct outreach throughout the Walsall borough to locate rough sleepers and follow up on referrals.
- Perform holistic risk and needs assessments, developing support and risk management plans.
- Design and implement life and social skills programs for service users in both individual and group settings.
- Encourage service users to engage in learning skills and work opportunities.
- Support service users in developing positive family and support networks.
- Assist service users in finding settled accommodation and provide ongoing support.
- Be available for regular support sessions and respond to crises.
- Safeguard the welfare of service users.
- Promote and facilitate service user participation in their support plans and service management.
- Facilitate access to and uptake of support services for service users.
- Ensure benefit claims are made and maintained to maximize service users' income.
- Organize and accompany service users to appointments as needed.
- Maintain accurate records, including support plans and outcomes.
- Be flexible and available out of hours, including weekends and bank holidays, on a rota basis to provide information, advice, and guidance to colleagues.
- Assist in the induction of new staff and supervise and support volunteers, trainees, and students as required.
Requirements
- Commitment to supporting vulnerable service users.
- Valid driving license and access to a vehicle for work use.
- Experience in supporting individuals with complex needs.
- Ability to conduct risk and needs assessments.
- Strong organizational and communication skills.
- Flexibility to work out of hours, including weekends and bank holidays.
