Job description
1-2 months contract with a Local Authority
Job Summary:
• We are seeking an experienced and dynamic Occupational Therapist to join the Reablement Team on a full-time basis.
• This role involves working collaboratively with individuals to promote independence and improve quality of life through short-term, strengths-based interventions.
• The post holder will manage a varied caseload including complex and challenging cases, within a supportive multidisciplinary environment, delivering high-quality assessments, reablement plans, and advice in line with statutory responsibilities and national legislation.
Key Duties/Accountabilities (Sample):
• Undertake complex occupational therapy assessments to develop and deliver personalised reablement plans
• Coordinate reablement support for customers with complex needs, ensuring goals are reviewed and interventions adapted accordingly
• Conduct moving and handling risk assessments and demonstrate safe techniques to clients and carers
• Assess for and recommend both minor and major home adaptations, including through the Disabled Facilities Grant process
• Provide professional supervision to junior occupational therapists and customer coordinators
• Support carers in their caring role and assess their needs in line with Care Act eligibility
• Maintain high-quality records and contribute to reports, including for court/tribunal settings
• Promote the use of universal services and community-based resources
• Engage in professional development, supervision, and performance reviews
• Participate in safeguarding adults procedures and investigations as required
Skills/Experience:
• Minimum of 2 years’ post-qualification experience in adult services
• Significant knowledge of relevant legislation (Care Act, Housing legislation, etc.)
• Experience in delivering occupational therapy in reablement or community-based settings
• Strong skills in moving & handling assessments and safe risk-taking
• Ability to manage a complex caseload and reprioritise according to service needs
• Excellent communication, interpersonal and report writing skills
• Experience in supervising other professionals or students
• Ability to work collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders
• Fully fluent in spoken and written English
• Confident in using IT systems and Microsoft applications
• Experience in intermediate care or safeguarding roles
• Experience supervising staff formally or offering training
• Familiarity with Disabled Facilities Grant processes
• Knowledge of the local voluntary and community sector
Additional Information:

• HCPC registered Occupational Therapist with a recognised degree or diploma.
• Enhanced DBS check required.
• Must hold a valid UK driving licence and access to a vehicle insured for business use.
