8 months contract with a local authority


Job Purpose

  • To deliver high-quality housing advice and assistance to customers in accordance with current legislation, statutory guidance, and council policy. The role involves assessing housing needs, determining eligibility for support, and providing tailored advice to prevent homelessness and promote sustainable housing solutions.

Key Duties/Accountabilities

  • Provide professional, sensitive, and confidential housing advice to customers across various channels including telephone, email, written correspondence, and referrals from partner agencies.
  • Conduct initial assessments of housing need and determine eligibility for assistance under the Housing Act 1996 (as amended).
  • Identify whether applicants are homeless or at risk of homelessness within 56 days and issue appropriate statutory notifications.
  • Book appointments for eligible applicants and refer them to the Senior Housing Options Officer (Prevention and Relief) for further support.

Essential Experience Required

  • Experience working in a housing advice, homelessness prevention, or related social care environment.
  • Strong understanding of housing legislation, including the Homelessness Reduction Act 2017.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to manage sensitive situations with empathy and professionalism.

Essential Qualification Required

  • A relevant qualification in housing, social work, or a related field (e.g., CIH Level 3 or above) is desirable.
