Job description

3-month contract with a local authority

Job Purpose
  • To undertake work in public parks, schools, playing fields, landscaped areas, and similar open spaces. Provision of high-quality grounds maintenance service and the achievement of its objectives through the optimum application of the allocated resources.

Key Duties/Accountabilities
  • General maintenance of allocated areas e.g., grass cutting, hedge trimming, and maintenance of sports areas in accordance with approved specification.
  • Undertake basic setting out and marking of sports areas and upkeep of artificial/synthetic/natural pitches.
  • Cleaning e.g., public buildings such as changing rooms and toilets, parks, playgrounds, and open spaces.
  • Application of pesticides in accordance with manufacturer’s guidelines and current legislation.
  • Work with minimal supervision and accept responsibility for the direction of the work of trainees and other employees assigned to them.
Essential Experience Required
  • Previous experience of Gardening/Grounds person duties
  • Knowledge of Health and Safety legislation and Safe Working Practices
  • Familiarity with COSHH Regulations
  • Experience working with Hand Tools, Powered Vibrating Machinery, and Light Plant
Essential Qualification Required
  • Training on the use of machinery
Additional information to note
  • Working hours: 43 hours per week
  • Full, valid UK driving licence and sole use of a vehicle is essential
  • Candidate is required to be fit and able to carry out grounds maintenance duties
