3 months contract with a Local Authority
Job Summary:
• An experienced and qualified Fire Safety Advisor is required to support the delivery of statutory fire safety responsibilities across a portfolio of residential and commercial properties, including high-risk buildings.
• This interim position plays a vital role in ensuring compliance with the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005, the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974, and associated legislation.
• The postholder will conduct fire risk assessments, provide expert advice, and contribute to fire safety management across housing services.

Key Duties/Accountabilities (Sample):
• Conduct suitable and sufficient Fire Risk Assessments (FRAs) across complex and non-complex residential buildings
• Provide competent fire safety advice to housing teams, senior managers, and stakeholders
• Support the implementation of risk mitigation strategies in accordance with fire safety regulations
• Liaise with internal departments and external agencies, including local fire authorities
• Assist with post-incident investigations and complete follow-up FRAs where required
• Review fire safety strategies for newly acquired or developed properties
• Deliver technical advice on fire-related building construction issues and fire-stopping measures
• Undertake joint inspections with fire authorities and represent the organisation during enforcement-related matters
• Analyse fire safety data and performance trends to inform continuous improvement
• Ensure recommendations from FRAs are tracked and followed through effectively
• Contribute to community engagement and fire prevention campaigns where necessary

Skills/Experience:
• At least five years’ experience conducting Fire Risk Assessments, particularly within social housing and high-risk residential buildings.
• Strong understanding of UK building construction methods and fire safety design principles.
• Knowledge of relevant legislation, including RRO 2005, Building Safety Act, and supporting British Standards (e.g., BS 9991, BS 9999, PAS 79).
• Proven ability to work independently and manage workload to strict deadlines.
• Excellent communication and reporting skills, able to explain technical matters to non-specialist audiences.
• Experience working alongside fire authorities and managing enforcement or compliance discussions.
• Familiarity with fire door inspections, compartmentation, and fire-stopping solutions.
• Third-party fire safety registration or willingness to work towards it within probationary period.

Additional Information:
• The closing date: 27/08/2025 @15:00.
• Minimum Level 5 qualification in Fire Safety or Fire Safety Engineering from a recognised fire sector body.
• Graduate-level membership (or higher) of a recognised fire safety or construction professional body (e.g., IFE, IFSM, CIOB).
• This is a hybrid role, requiring both site visits and office/home working.
• A current UK driving licence and vehicle insurance for business use is essential.
