Job description
3 months contract with local authority
The position is situated within the Authority's litigation team, primarily focusing on the role of an Employment Lawyer. The role involves providing expert advice on Employment Law, policy, and governance, as well as managing litigation processes. The individual will represent the Council in court and tribunal settings, including Employment Tribunals (ET), hearings, and inquiries. Additional responsibilities include supporting civil litigation efforts and assisting with clerking education appeals during peak periods.
Responsibilities:
- Attend and advise Council committees, sub-committees, and other groups as directed by the Director of Governance and Legal.
- Offer general legal counsel to Council Members, Officers, and associated entities as instructed.
- Implement Council decisions related to legal matters as allocated by the Director of Governance and Legal or relevant Operational Manager.
- Conduct litigation on behalf of the Council, manage proceedings, and act as the Council's advocate in various legal settings.
- Negotiate and draft contracts, agreements, and governance instruments.
- Prepare documentation for legal or quasi-legal proceedings and perform statutory or administrative tasks as required.
- Address disputes and complaints effectively.
- Stay informed on legal developments and advise the Council on relevant matters.
- Contribute to a comprehensive legal service for the Council.
- Support senior staff and assist junior staff with legal issues.
