2-3 weeks contract with a Local Authority
Job Summary:
• We are seeking a reliable and hardworking Cleaning Operative to join a waste and environmental services team on a short-term contract basis.
• This is a frontline, manual labour role involving dustcart loading, refuse collection, and general site cleaning.
• You will work as part of a small, settled team, supporting the driver and ensuring waste collection rounds are completed safely, efficiently, and to a high standard.
• The ideal candidate will be experienced in similar roles and confident working in a physically demanding outdoor environment.
Key Duties/Accountabilities (Sample):
• Load commercial and residential bins onto dustcarts and ensure efficient refuse removal.
• Carry out collection and removal of bulk and bagged waste from designated areas.
• Support vehicle cleanliness by assisting with fortnightly cleaning (internal and external).
• Maintain, clean, and securely store all cleaning equipment and materials.
• Identify and report defective tools or supplies and assist with stock requests.
• Follow health and safety regulations, PPE requirements, and security procedures.
• Attend mandatory training and adapt to new processes, methods, or equipment.
• Cooperate with supervisors, team members, and members of the public professionally.
• Complete any reasonable additional duties in line with operational service needs.
Skills/Experience:
• Minimum of 1 years’ experience in waste management, cleaning, grounds maintenance or similar environment.
• Experience of working on a dustcart or waste collection vehicle is highly desirable.
• Capable of performing physical labour and lifting heavy items safely.
• Ability to work early shifts (6am starts) and flexible hours as required.
• Strong teamwork and interpersonal skills to collaborate effectively with colleagues.
• Able to work independently without close supervision.
• Understanding of and commitment to equality, diversity, and health & safety principles.
• Ability to conduct basic safety checks on tools, materials, and equipment.
• Willingness to adapt and learn new procedures or methods.
Additional Information:
• This is a full-time temporary assignment (36 hours/week).
• Shifts run from 06:00 to 14:00, Monday to Friday.
