Job description
6 Month Contract With a Local Authority
To provide technical support in the delivery of the Disabled Facilities Grants (DFG) programme, ensuring timely, cost-effective, and appropriate adaptations are delivered to support the independence and wellbeing of disabled residents.
Key Responsibilities:
Undertake home surveys to assess the suitability of proposed adaptations for disabled residents.
Develop specifications and technical drawings for adaptation works such as stairlifts, level-access showers, ramps, door widening, and other accessible facilities.
Ensure that all proposed works meet current Building Regulations, planning requirements, and accessibility standards.
Prepare schedules of works, specifications, and cost estimates for DFG-funded projects.
Liaise with occupational therapists, contractors, and residents throughout the adaptation process.
Monitor project progress, carry out interim and final inspections, and sign off completed works.
Ensure contractors meet quality standards and comply with health and safety regulations.
Assist in processing DFG applications in accordance with relevant legislation (Housing Grants, Construction and Regeneration Act 1996).
Ensure projects remain within budget and funds are used appropriately.
Maintain accurate records of all technical work and financial details.
Ensure value for money in procurement and delivery.
Provide clear advice to residents, carers, and families regarding proposed adaptations.
Ensure customer needs and preferences are understood and reflected in adaptation plans.
Respond to queries and concerns from clients in a timely and empathetic manner.
Advocate for the needs of vulnerable residents and promote independent living.
Work closely with Occupational Therapists, Social Workers, Housing Officers, and other stakeholders.
Liaise with planning and building control departments, contractors, and grant officers as needed
Requirements
Experience of preparing specifications and overseeing building/adaptation works.
Knowledge of DFG legislation and housing adaptation procedures.
Experience of working with vulnerable or disabled individuals and understanding their housing needs.
Knowledge of CAD or other drawing software.
Experience working in a local authority or social housing setting.
Understanding of planning and building control processes.
