Job Summary:
• Birmingham Children’s Trust is seeking an experienced Senior Practitioner (4+ years) with strong knowledge and hands-on experience within a pre-birth social work setting. This is a fast-paced and complex role, ideal for a practitioner with robust experience in safeguarding, risk management, and multi-agency working.
• You will be working with vulnerable families from early pregnancy, aiming to break cycles of children entering care. The role requires completion of pre-birth assessments, legal planning, and working across CIN, CP, and ICO cases.
Key Duties/Accountabilities (Sample):
• Manage a complex caseload focused on pre-birth and post-birth assessments.
• Carry out in-depth risk assessments and develop safe, outcome-focused care plans.
• Support and assess parents whose previous children have been removed from their care.
• Participate in legal planning meetings, pre-proceedings, and court processes.
• Collaborate effectively with multi-agency partners, including mental health, domestic abuse, and substance misuse services.
• Mentor and provide technical guidance to less experienced social workers.
• Ensure accurate and timely performance reporting and documentation.
• Represent the Trust at key meetings and case discussions.
• Promote consistent, high-quality practice in line with legislation and organisational standards.
Skills/Experience:
• Minimum 4 years post-qualifying social work experience (essential)
• Extensive knowledge and experience in pre-birth assessment and planning
• Demonstrated experience working in Child in Need (CIN), Child Protection (CP) and care proceedings (ICO)
• Strong understanding of legal frameworks, including legal planning and pre-proceedings
• Proven ability to manage complex safeguarding cases
• Skilled in multi-agency working to manage cases involving:
• Domestic abuse
• Mental health issues
• Substance misuse
• Homelessness
• Ability to mentor, coach, and quality-assure the work of colleagues
• Strong communication, report writing, and organisational skills
Additional Information:
• Clearance: Enhanced DBS required.
