3 months contract with a local authority

Job Purpose
  • To support on the delivery of a value adding, customer focused risk and insurance function that collaborates with service colleagues and other professional functions to meet the needs of that directorate, the changing environment they work in whilst also delivering on corporate objectives and responsibilities. To drive council efforts in delivering the changes and improvements needed to meet its challenges in the short, medium and long term.

Key Duties/Accountabilities
  • Ensure the provision of a high-quality insurance service that integrates best practice and customer focus with all aspects of service delivery and complies with statutory and policy requirements for the relevant area.
  • Pro-actively ensure the risk and insurance service and transformation in relation to these services are consistent with the longer term political and service aspirations as set out in relevant organisational and service strategies.
  • Develop and drive the changing role of the risk and insurance service in becoming a support function that is proactive, takes ownership, and maximises benefit from technological changes, focuses on becoming a data led, value adding professional advisory and support function whilst also ensuring appropriate controls are in place for the effective processing of insurance claims.
  • Provide advice and support along with other Finance & Investment colleagues to deliver sound governance, control and assurance across all finance functions.
  • Support the Head of Risk and Insurance in delivering a value adding, customer focused risk and insurance function that collaborates with service colleagues and other professional functions to meet the needs of that directorate, the changing environment they work in whilst also delivering on corporate objectives and responsibilities.
Essential Experience Required
  • Experience of being able to successfully represent the Council’s case in claims resolution negotiations and briefing solicitors and other legal staff who will present cases on behalf of the Council.
  • Ability to form objective balanced judgements and seek appropriate assistance from the Risk and Insurance Manager.
  • Insurance Litigation Experience.
  • To respond to enquiries and to advise on matters concerning risk and insurance.
Essential Qualification Required
  • Possession of accredited investigator training (PINS or equivalent) is required.

  • Working Hours: 35 hours per week.
