1 Month Contract With A Local Authority


Job Purpose:

To deliver a high-quality, customer-focused repairs and maintenance service across Council-owned housing stock and premises. The Multi-Trader will carry out building repairs, maintenance, renewals, and replacements within a range of trade disciplines. This includes reactive repairs, programmed refurbishment works, and occupational therapy adaptations in both occupied and void properties.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Carry out repairs, maintenance, and improvements across a range of trade disciplines to a professional standard.

  • Undertake planned and reactive works, including emergency call-outs as required.

  • Complete occupational therapy adaptations in line with specifications and tenant needs.

  • Ensure all work is carried out in accordance with relevant building regulations, health and safety standards, and council policies.

  • Diagnose building faults and determine appropriate solutions on-site.

  • Liaise professionally and courteously with tenants, residents, and colleagues.

  • Record and report work undertaken using the organisation’s job management system (e.g., via PDA or paper-based system).

  • Ensure compliance with relevant trade qualifications, standards, and legal requirements.

  • Maintain a clean and safe working environment at all times.

  • Manage tools, materials, and van stock efficiently to ensure high productivity.

  • Participate in out-of-hours or emergency call-out services as required.


Trade Competencies:

Must be competent to a professional standard in at least four of the following disciplines:

  • Plumbing

  • Carpentry

  • Plastering

  • Electrical (including Part P if applicable)

  • Tiling

  • Painting & Decorating

  • Gas Safe (for qualified candidates)


Requirements

Essential:

  • Proven experience in at least four of the listed trade disciplines.

  • Ability to work independently and use initiative to resolve on-site problems.

  • Good knowledge of health and safety regulations relevant to building maintenance.

  • Full UK driving licence.

  • Strong interpersonal and customer service skills.

  • Ability to use handheld devices or mobile job systems for reporting and logging work.

Desirable:

  • Relevant NVQ Level 2 or 3 in core trade areas.

  • CSCS Card.

  • Previous experience working in social housing or public sector environments.

  • Asbestos Awareness Certification.

  • First Aid certification.
