Summary

As a Major Projects Planner on a 1-year contract with a local authority, you will serve as a senior expert within the team, managing complex projects and providing specialist advice. You will deputize for senior managers when needed and play a crucial role in the team's success.

Responsibilities

Project Leadership: Lead complex and strategically important Development Management projects, including major applications and appeals at Public Inquiries.
Negotiation & Stakeholder Management: Collaborate with developers and stakeholders to resolve conflicts and negotiate significant financial and community benefits through S.106 legal agreements.
Expert Advice & Communication: Serve as the Council's senior expert spokesperson on Development Management issues, prepare and present high-level reports, and represent the Council at committees and public forums.
Team Contribution: Mentor junior staff, contribute to team performance management, and help develop a positive, customer-friendly planning service.

Essential Experience Required

Minimum of 5 years' knowledge of the legislative, policy, and procedural frameworks within which the planning service operates.
Extensive post-qualification experience in Development Management.
Proven experience negotiating on complex applications to secure community benefits.
Experience mentoring staff.
